Why?

These days, it seems like big corporations try to take control of our kids almost from the moment of birth. Photo: Adbusters.

For decades, big corporations have occupied our families, driving a wedge between parents and kids in countless ways and creating tension and discord in our homes.

Product marketing has made our children vulnerable to the lies of those who would exploit them for profit at great danger to their physical, mental, and emotional health. And for those of us who see it this way, corporations endanger our kids’ spiritual lives as well.

Corporate domination of our economy has taken both parents out of the home and required them to work longer and harder to put food on the table and to buy all the needless junk that advertisements have convinced our kids they need.

And the mindset of the marketplace has fooled both parents and kids into thinking that success and a meaningful life lie outside the home in careerism and overachievement as measured by grades or money. This mindset is insidious and hard to see; but its effects have been profound.

Despite their promises, big corporations will not make our families happier. They will instead destroy them from the inside, if we let them.

Now, it’s time to fight back. Parents and kids do have power. Let’s occupy the family together.
